Sadly a needed app

This is mock commercial is sadly for a needed app for many.  The beauty of camp is that you don’t need a computer program to notice when someone is talking to you.

About a year ago, we created Tech Free Tuesday at our Boys and Girls Club. For the first few weeks, at least 2 kids cried every week. Since then, kids are found playing board games and imagination based games and Bey Blades. They do their homework if it isn’t done after homework time and read books.

It was hard for kids and for staff at first- but even when it isn’t Tuesday, kids who wouldn’t have been seen outside of the computer lab or away from the video games are participating in other programs and experiencing new things.

Miss Brenda, that is so great to hear. “Experiencing new things” is a vital part of encouraging a child to take a break from their device. Facebook is addictive because of the feeling that they are “missing out” if they aren’t online. You are creating an environment where children are “missing out” if they are glued to a screen. Great job!
